Q SESSION ANAYSIS - ITALIAN GP

Qualifying is over, McLaren took pole position, with Norris in pole position and Oscar Piastri in second place with a gap of 0.1s and behind by a few thousand George Russell with Mercedes.

We can see that the two McLaren have two different methods, Norris prefers to slow down progressively and brake later and more aggressively, while his teammate slows down and brakes at the same time. Copying the braking point we find George Russell who brakes first and then raises his foot from the accelerator.

The two McLaren drivers seem to have more in the first moments after coming out of turn 2, but as we can see from the gap, Russell recovers on the straight.

The drivers arrive at the Canal: the difference is not much, Norris arrives with 323 km/h, Russell with 322 and Piastri with 321. Russel repeats, brakes first and then releases the accelerator. Norris is the first to slow down and brake, with a more aggressive gear climb than the Mercedes n o 63, similar instead Piastri that brakes later.

Norris is the first to lift his foot from the brake at the exit of the Canal, but he prefers to use the higher rpm, and he succeeds in his intention, reducing the gap between the two rivals.

We arrive at the Lesmo: in Lesmo 1, the McLaren Australian slows down after Norris, but uses the brake little and starts again first progressively, while his teammate waits a bit before pressing the accelerator, then with greater aggressiveness press it, First reaching 100% throttle, Russell instead needs more time to push the accelerator at 100%. This is in favor of the British with n°4, which reduces even more the gap from the two rivals.

At Lesmo 2, Russell has the brake for less time (considering that he slows down and brakes later), this allows him to have a good speed in entry, but not in exit and in fact will have difficulties with traction, Letting Norris start to create the gap on him.

And this is where Norris has the upper hand over his teammate, the driver of the n°4 slows progressively and brakes later (and with less time), compared to Piastri manages to bring more speed in, But the Australian would have done better if he had not lost it on the right curb at the exit of the Ascari.

Russell this time slows and brakes simultaneously and progressively, using the brake less than Piastri. At the exit of Ascari, number 63 seems to have the best of it, but at the exit of Alboreto, Norris has a better traction, very important to face the straight that leads to turn 11.

We have already seen from FP3, that Norris changed philosophy to deal with parabolic, slows progressively, the same goes for the gears, then brake aggressively last. While his teammate seems to face it as he did in FP2, sacrificing entry speed to favor exit speed. Russell has a similar attitude to the one of piestones but slows down and brakes later.

Russell is the last to brake and at the same time accelerates with greater decision than the two rivals (the higher braking will have given him more safety in the restart). The first to start is Piastri and has a higher speed in the first moments of the release, (also taking advantage of a little' higher rpm than Russell, who immediately changes gears before the two McLaren.)

Norris with new way to tackle turn 11, increases the gap from teammate, confirming that it is the best way for McL38

They arrive on the final straight with very similar km/h values, Norris 317 km/h, Russell 316 km/h and Piastri also with 316 km/h.
